Heidi L. Parker, LMSW, CT

I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and hold an Advanced Certificate in Trauma and Disaster Mental Health.  I am also Certified in Thanatology (CT) through the Association of Death Education and Counseling (ADEC).  Currently, I work as the Bereavement Coordinator/Social Worker for Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville, NY.

As a Humanist Chaplain and Celebrant endorsed by the American Humanist Association, I maintain the full rights and responsibilities of ordained clergy.  I completed a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) unit in the summer of 2014 and continued to volunteer as an Interfaith Chaplain at Albany Medical Center 2014-2017.

I taught Bereavement Studies classes at Hudson Valley Community College (2011-2015) and created their distance learning course in Cross-Cultural and Religious Perspectives which examines global traditions in death and grief.

From 2007-2014, I visited patients in-home as a trained volunteer for Community Hospice in Saratoga Springs, NY and helped establish their “Treasured Memories” life-journaling project.

An active member of the Association for Death Education and Counseling (ADEC),  I chaired their Public Education/Media Relations Committee 2010-2016 and was elected to their Board of Directors 2013-2016.

My communications credentials were built over two decades as a scriptwriter and video producer.  In addition to the above education, I hold a Bachelor of Arts from the University at Albany and a Certificate in Bereavement Studies from Hudson Valley Community College.  I completed funeral celebrant training through the In-sight Institute of Oklahoma City, OK  and Humanist celebrant training through the Harvard Humanist Chaplaincy in Boston, MA.

I’m deeply interested in the end-of-life issues, the personalization of transitional ceremonies, and improving support for the acutely bereaved.
